Getting Started

I have to admit that I was a bit overwhelmed this week when I realized I would be not only creating my first blog, but also getting a Yahoo! account, Twitter account, and a page on the class wiki. I tend to be a reserved, private person to a degree. Knowing that my information is out there is crazy to me. I did already have a Facebook account, but I don't check it very often or put much on there. Maybe this class will change my mind and make me use it more. As for Twitter, I don't get it. Why would I want to know the thoughts and actions of various people or organizations at any given moment? Weird. I am very, very new to it, so we'll see.

I thought the reading and the video was interesting. It is so true that technology (Internet, e-mail, etc) is transforming change in our world. Communication is instantaneous. Further, more people actually use their voice in community decisions as well as learning about decisions. That is, with the accessible information out there for anyone, people are more able to take sides and have diverse opinions on any given subject. When it comes to government or businesses, information made available helps people to know how to act. Those actions dictate how government/businesses must adapt to meet the needs/demands of the people. I think both Malone and David Cameron are both making that point--they both tell how the channels of communication/information are changing the world as we know it. We can have global businesses and at the same time become more unified as individual nations as we link together with information on the Internet. Nothing seems private anymore.

Not sure what this blogging thing is all about

I made this blog because of a school assignment.
I know tons of people with blogs, but I've never been one to think I needed one. It seems interesting, though, and I am excited to learn what comes of this blog throughout this semester.
